I have been reading some of the scriptures as has been advised by our saints. On perusing these scriptures, I think I have got certain doubts, which I would hope cognoscenti on Hindu scriptures will clarify.
1. In the Vayu Mahapurana (Soma uthpathi varnanam, 28th Chapter), it seems to have been written that Chandra (Moon) did penance for 100,00,00,00,00,00,00,000 years. Now, it appears from the puranas that even Brahma does not have that much lifespan. As far as my knowledge goes, his lifespan is not beyond 1000 Crore Years. Even other deities much higher to him do seem to possess that much lifespan. In what way, was Chandra able to do penance for such a long span.
2. In the same Vayu Mahapurana (Vishnu Mahatmye Shambhu Keerthanam - 35th Chapter), it seems to have been written that Hiranyakasipa reigned for 10 Crore years. Now, it is also written there that Bali also reigned for 10 Crore years. It also seems to have been written that Prahlada also reigned for 10 Crore years. Now, if all these reigns of Bali, Prahlada and Hiranyakasipu are taken together, they amount to 30 Crore Years. Now, it seems to have been given in the same purana that Vishnu took the form of Narasimha and killed Hiranyakasipu in the fourth mahayuga of this Vaivaswata Manvantara. Now, it must perhaps be assumed that since Prahlada and Bali are son and great grandson of Hiranyakasipu, they became kings after the death of Hiranyakasipu. Now, from the above it is clear that Hiranyakasipu died in the fourth Mahayuga. Now, from the fourth Mahayuga to the present 28th Mahayuga, total years do not add upto 12 Crore years. Then, how can we make the above reconcile.
